Facility Operations Handbook

In 2022, I was working as a Building Manager and Creative Designer for University Recreation at UNC Charlotte. While training newly onboarded staff, I identified a need for a new handbook to replace the current 100-page Word document, which was unorganized, difficult to follow, and formatted inconsistently. Using my knowledge of the job and the preexisting document, I created a cohesive, organized, and visually appealing 19-page quick guide. I designed it with the intention that the pages would connect as spreads. The book can be viewed digitally but was also printed for employees to quickly reference. The handbook was a success and was used to lead trainings, serve as a study guide for new employees, and act as a reference point for questions.

In 2026, after years of operational changes, I was asked to update the handbook to reflect current procedures for the newly named Facility Operations department. I reviewed each page and updated the information. Due to its previous success, I expanded the handbook by adding 14 pages, transforming it from a quick guide into a fully functioning SOP manual. I also enjoyed the update because it allowed me to revisit and improve my previous design work after further developing my skills.
